Belfast International Track & Field Meet Returns for 2019
22 May 2019
Athletics Northern Ireland are delighted to announce the launch of the Belfast International Track & Field Meet at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday 1st August 2019.
The meet is part of the annual fixtures list and provides a great competition for local and international athletes. After the success of last year’s event, the 2019 Meet will this year be part of the European Athletics Promotions Circuit. This offers a great opportunity for Athletics NI to welcome athletes from across Europe to compete in a high quality competition.
This year’s Ambassador is Commonwealth Games Athlete, Kate O’Connor (Dundalk St Gerard’s AC), who broke her own Senior Northern Ireland Javelin record and the Irish U20 record this year. She won an impressive 2nd place at the Multi-Stars IAAF Challenge in Italy, which was her first heptathlon since the Gold Coast.
Kate will be joined by fellow Commonwealth Games athletes, Leon Reid , Dempsey McGuigan and Commonwealth Games Team Captain, Ciara Mageean, at the August meet.
General Secretary of Athletics Northern Ireland, John Allen, said: “We are delighted to be part of the EAP circuit this year and we look forward to welcoming not only our local and elite athletes, but also those from across Europe, to the Mary Peters Track. The Track is a world class standard venue that is open to all levels of the athletics community from school children to club athletes and those training at an international level.”
It is hoped that this prestigious International event will succeed in continuing to attract thousands to the iconic Mary Peters Track on its Upper Malone Road site by showcasing international and local talent. The day’s events will include competitions for all ages, from Primary School children through to the International Senior athletes.
