Fast Times and Fierce Rivalries Expected at Mary Peters Track
10 June 2026

With Commonwealth Games places up for grabs many of our local stars will be competing in this year’s NI and Ulster Senior Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
One of the many highlights include the women’s 200m, which should see an interesting clash over the shorter distance for some of our 400m stars. Rachel McCann (North Down AC), Arlene Crossan (Finn Valley) and Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) who all have recently competed for Ireland at the World Relay Championships should all feature in what should prove to be an intriguing battle.
The men’s 800m also provides an interesting clash with 800m specialist Andrew Thompson (North Belfast Harriers) facing strong opposition from NI indoor mile record holder James Gormley (Carmen Runners) and NI 5000m record holder Nick Griggs (CNDR). With the addition of Roland Surlis (CNDR) who has the second fastest pb in the field of 1.46.74 it could shape up to be the race of the day.
Commonwealth Games hopeful Callum Morgan (CNDR) has entered the men’s 1500m and with a pb of 3.39.21 is the quickest athlete in the field. With six of his training partners also entered it should lead to a very entertaining race.
In the field events Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn AC) and interestingly fellow heptathlete Jodie Smith (CNDR) are entered in the shot but both will face stiff competition from Irish Schools Champion Caoimhe Gallen (Lifford and Strabane AC). Both Anna and Jodie are also entered in the women’s javelin.
Decathlete Finn O’Neill (Lifford and Strabane AC) who has recently returned from College in the US will face the Kelly Brothers John and James (Finn Valley) in the men’s shot. Finn has also entered the men’s pole vault.
In the Para events Eve Walsh Dann (North Down AC) has entered the ambulant 100m and the women’s long jump and with Commonwealth Games selection on the horizon will be looking to impress.
The action starts at 10am at the Mary Peters Track with the Flahavan’s 1000m races for primary school children followed by the women’s 100m heats. The men’s and women’s 200m finals conclude the day’s events at 4pm.
A link to live results will be posted on ANI social media outlets on Saturday morning.
