First NI Athletes set to compete in Tokyo

Two Northern Irish Athletes will be taking to the warm up track on the early hours of Saturday morning as the Irish Mixed 4x400m Relay Team aims for qualification through to Saturday evening’s final.

Rachel McCann (North Down / Ian Neely) and Conor Kelly (Finn Valley / Paul Miller) have been selected for the mixed 4x400 relay squad alongside Sharlene Mawdsley, Sophie Becker, Jack Raftery and Cillin Greene with two male and two female athletes from the six to compete.
 
Conor Kelly has been in great form this summer breaking the Irish U20 400m record when winning the Gold at the European U20 Championships three weeks ago. Rachel has been rewarded following her brilliant silver medal winning performance at the Irish Championships in a pb of 53.19.
 
The Irish team have been drawn in lane 8 in the tough heat 1 at 3.40am NI time with alongside strong teams from USA, GB & NI, Italy, and Jamacia.
