Griggs Breaks U23 Irish and NI Senior Record

It has been another very successful week for our local athletes.

Nick Griggs (CNDR Track Club) completed a stellar week with another Irish U23 and NI Senior record, running 13.13.07 for 5000m at the Morton Games in Santry on Friday night.

Also competing in the Morton Games, Summer Leckey (Finn Valley) continued her return to form finishing 4th in the Women’s High Jump with a jump of 1.78m. Callum Morgan (CNDR Track Club) clocked another sub 14 min 5000m finishing 15th in the Men’s 5000m. In the Junior Women’s Mile Lucy Foster finished 3rd in a PB of 4.55.09.

Santry also hosted the National Combined Events Championships and the AAI Games over the weekend which produced some good performances.

In the Women’s Heptathlon Ashleigh McCardle (Lifford Strabane AC) finished 2nd with 4714 points and Laura Frey (Lagan Valley AC) 3rd with 4337 points.

Roise Roberts (CNDR Track Club) finished first in the Women’s 3000m in a time of 9.55.13. Rebecca Rossiter (CNDR Track Club) was 2nd in a tactical Women’s 1500m in 4.33.97. Toby Thompson (Ballymena & Antrim AC) finished 2nd in the Men’s 200m in 21.78.

The Men’s 800m proved to be the most competitive of the day with Conall Kirk (CNDR Track Club) finishing a close 4th in a Season’s Best of 1.51.04 and Lughaidh Mallon (Lagan Valley AC) 7th in a PB of 1.53.52.

In the field events Blaine Lynch (Finn Valley AC) won the Men’s Javelin with a throw of 50.90m with Charlie Lawton (North Down AC) 2nd with a throw of 45.56m.

Ruby Kennedy (City of Lisburn AC) finished 2nd in the Women’s Triple Jump with a jump of 9.96m.

Further afield, Ellie McCartney (City of Lisburn AC) competing in Germany jumped 4.35m in the Women’s Pole Vault close to her PB of 4.36m. While in Belgium, Callum Baird (Ballymena & Antrim AC) also ran very close to his PB running 46.39 in the Men’s 400m.
