Commonwealth Games Long Jumper, Adam McMullen and National U23 Triple Jump Champion, Jai Benson today launched the Belfast International Meet at the Mary Peters Track, which will take place on Wednesday 27th May.

Adam McMullen (Crusaders AC) has had an impressive comeback from injury during this indoor season, jumping 7.47m at the Meeting Elite en Salle De Nantes in January and claimed the top spot at the AAI Indoor Games Senior Men’s Long Jump with 7.38m. He will no doubt be hoping to improve further during the outdoor season, including at the Belfast International Meet. Meanwhile, Triple Jumper, Jai Benson (Lagan Valley AC) has had a solid indoor season, setting a new indoor PB of 14.61 at the AAI Indoor Games, where he finished in 2nd place.

The International Meet will once again be part of the European Athletics Promotions circuit, which attracts athletes from across Europe to compete in a high level competition, alongside our local athletes. In previous years the event has seen a number of high profile International and Local athletes compete at the track including Portaferry’s leading lady, Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn AC/ Team New Balance); Great Britain’s Adam Gemili; Irish middle-distance runner, Sarah Healy and some of NI’s top sprinters, Leon Reid, Jason Smyth and Dean Adams. In the field, previous athletes have included Commonwealth Games athletes, Sommer Lecky and Great Britain’s Nick Percy.

It is hope that this prestigious International athletics event will continue to attract hundreds to the iconic Mary Peters Track in the scenic Lagan Valley Regional Park. The event will showcase the best of local and international talent, with the day’s events including competition for all ages, from primary school children right through to International senior athletes.

This year’s event will once again include the Mike Fulton Memorial Open Discus Competition, along with a wide range of international and local (open) events. Find out more here:
