Championships & Internationals: Policies, Entry Standards & Qualification

Junior Athlete, Parent & Coach Information Session

Wednesday 26th May at 8.30pm

On 26th May at 8.30pm Talent Lead Laura Kerr and Performance Lead Tom Reynolds will take 45 minutes to guide Junior Athletes (U20/U18/U17) and their parents and coaches through updates on Irish & British policies and qualification standards for the European U20 Championships (July 2021); Northern Ireland U20 & Senior Teams for the Manchester International (August 2021) and UK School Games U17 (September 2021) as well as recommendations for entering the English Athletics U20/U23 Championships (June 2021).

Joined by Director of Coaching & Athlete Development, Jackie Newton, the Athletics NI staff will discuss entry standards and policies for these championships, and discuss eligibility and decision making when considering Irish & British Pathways. The team will highlight any major changes to the policies for this year as well as longer term planning towards 2022 and 2023 championships and beyond. Updates on schools’ athletics including the Interprovincial Championships and Schools International will also be provided.

Laura states, “We hope junior athletes aspiring to any of these championships, either this year or in the future, will find the time to join us and increase their knowledge to inform their planning. Now more than ever, after the Covid pandemic disruption to sport, it is vital that athletes fully understand what the competition calendar will offer in 2021 and coach and athlete pairs take responsibility for preparing individual competition plans.”
