Les Jones Memorial 10k Announced for 2019

The famous Les Jones Memorial 10k will return for its 28th year on Friday 17th May 2019. The event, organised by Athletics Northern Ireland is run in memory of the late, Les Jones, an athlete, team manager and Chairman who passed away in 1992.

The Les Jones 10K will start at 7.30pm sharp on the Mary Peters Track, and will then continue on to the Malone Road. The route will include scenic, riverside meadows, wetland and the mixed woodland area of the Lagan Towpath, before continuing to Shaw’s Bridge, Barnett’s Park and the QUB playing fields. As always, one of the central sections of the route, the infamous hill, will play a major part in deciding the final winners, before returning to the Mary Peter’s Track.

Last year’s winners, Jessica Craig (North Down AC) and Vincent McKenna (QUB AC) joined event sponsor, ChampionChip’s Glenn Grant in launching this year’s event.

John Allen, General Secretary of Athletics Northern Ireland, said, “We are once again looking forward to an enjoyable evening’s competition at the Les Jones Memorial 10k. The race has become a stable in many runner’s diaries over the years and we are glad to welcome entrants to the Mary Peter’s Track once again for this remembrance event.”

There is a total prize fund of £420, and each entrant will receive a commemorative medal and t-shirt. The Earlybird entry fee will be £12.00 until 31st March 2019. Online entry fees will then be £15.00 for ANI Registered Athletes, £17.00 for Unattached Athletes. The closing date for online entries will be 13th May 2019 at 5pm. However, there will still be entries available on the night for the 10K for a fee of £20 per entry.
