Mageean, England and Nalyanya Set for Belfast International

Athletics NI are delighted to announce the start list for one of the showcase events at the Belfast International EAP Meet on Thursday 1st August 2019.

Commonwealth Games Athlete and Team NI Athletics Captain, Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn AC/ Team New Balance) will be battling for the podium places in a high quality event.

The European Bronze Medalist has had a great season so far, with a season’s best performance at the recent BMC Grand Prix in Watford in the 800m A race, finishing in a time of 2:01.81 (PB: 2:01.79).

Fellow Commonwealth Games athlete, Eglay Nalyanya (Kenya/ PB: 2:00.28) will be pushing for a fast-paced race with the gold medal in her sights. Eglay finished 8th at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 in a time of 2:00.28 and is currently sitting with a season’s best of 2:01.83 from Gliwice, Poland.

London 2012 Olympian and 2011 World 1500m Silver medallist, Hannah England (Oxford City/ PB: 1:59.66). The GB athlete recently competed in Birmingham at the University Ivy League Match, winning her 800m event in a time of 2:07.48. Joining them will be Anna Silvander (Stockport Harriers/ PB: 2:02.53)

Against them will be upcoming Irish trio, Claire Mooney (UCD AC/ PB: 2:01.61), Alanna Lally (UCD AC/ PB: 2:04.79) and 2018 European U18 1500m and 3000m Gold Medallist, Sarah Healy (Holy Child, Killiney/ PB: 2:02.76), all of whom competed at last year’s event.

This is the first year that the Belfast International Meet has been involved in the European Athletics Promotion Circuit and it looks set to attract top class International athletes. Entries are still available until Wednesday 24th July at 5pm, or until the maximum number for each event is reached.
