European and Commonwealth silver medallist Ciara Mageean confirmed once again her scintillating form prior to next month’s World Championships in Budapest with yet another Irish record in the mile in the Monaco Golden Grand Prix meeting.

The 30 year old fought off a World Class field to finish second in the event in a time of 4:14.58 which took nearly 3 seconds off the previous record held by Sonia O’Sullivan of 4:17.25 from Oslo back in 1994.

Ciara’s time takes nearly 5 seconds off her previous best in a race won by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon who shattered Sifan Hassan’s world record from 2019 with new figures of 4:07.64.

Mageean is now in prime position for a medal in the Worlds after she again defeated GB‘s Laura Muir who finished behind her in 4th position in a British record in 4:15.24.
