Mageean Strikes Again

City of Lisburn AC’s and World 1500m Finalist, Ciara Mageean, has had a terrific start to her Olympic Year by setting a new 1500m Irish Indoor record in Boston.

She finished 3rd overall in the Women’s 1500m Final in a PB time of 4:06.42.

athleticsireland.jpgThere were a number of athletes competing in Athlone on Saturday for the Irish Life Health National Junior & U23 Indoor Championships. Lagan Valley AC’s Jai Benson claimed 1st place in the U23 Men’s Triple Jump with a jump of 14.51m, which sees him move to 9th place in the UK Power of 10 rankings. City of Lisburn AC’s Lauren Roy finished 3rd in the U23 Women’s 60m Sprints in a time of 7.48s, while club mate, Josh Armstrong finished the U23 Men’s 60m Hurdles in a time of 8.53s to take 2nd place. North Down AC’s Rachel McCann finished 1st in the U20 Women’s 400m in a time of 55.59s, with Finn Valley AC’s Daniella Jansen in 3rd place in a time of 58.02s. Ballymena & Antrim AC’s Abbie O’Neill finished 3rd in the U20 Women’s Pole Vault competition clearing 3.35m, which is the U17 age group best height and equals the Irish U17 Indoor record.

Scottish Athletics held their annual Senior & U17 Indoor Championships at the Emirates Stadium logo-scottishathletics.jpgon Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th January 2020. Ballymena & Antrim AC’s Dean Adams continued his winning streak by setting another new PB of 6.81s in the Men’s 60m Sprints, followed by City of Lisburn AC’s Christian Robinson in 2nd place in a time of 6.93s. City of Lisburn AC’s Jenna Breen won 1st place in the U17 Women’s 300m in a time if 39.98s, while her club mate, Victoria Lightbody finished 2nd in the U17 Women’s 800m in a new PB time of 2:12.95. Willowfield Harriers’ Dylan McBride won 2nd place in the U17 Men’s 800m with a time of 1:56.90s, with his club mate, Joel Chambers finishing 5th in the U17 Men’s 1500m in a time of 4:22.41. Andrew Mellon (Liverpool Harriers) won 3rd place in the Senior Men’s 400m in 48.36.

In the field events, City of Lisburn AC’s Ben Fisher finished 6th in the Senior Men’s Long Jump, jumping 7.26m, while fellow club member, Anna McIlmoyle cleared 1.59m in the Senior Women’s Long Jump to finish in joint 7th place. City of Lisburn AC’s Daniel Scott finished 3rd in the U17 Men’s High Jump, clearing 1.74m, followed by Finn Valley AC’s Joseph Gillespie who cleared 1.69m to finish in 6th place.

2018 Commonwealth Games Athlete, Adam McMullen (Crusaders AC) and World Junior Silver Medallist Sommer Lecky (Finn Valley Ac) both travelled to warmer climates this weekend to compete in the Meeting Elite en Salle de Nantes, France. Sommer cleared 1.81m to finish 4th in the Women’s High Jump competition, while Adam jumped a post-injury best of 7.47m in the Men’s Long Jump to finish in 7th place.

Further afield, Beechmount Harriers’ Davicia Patterson (Iowa State University) competed in the Rod McCravy Invitational, finishing 9th in the Women’s 400m in a time of 56.48s.
