Marrs Speeds to Northern Irish 60m Hurdles Record in Loughborough

Megan Marrs (Alex Nwenwu) equalled her 60m Hurdles PB and NI indoor record with 8.16 in Round 1 of the Loughborough Elite Meeting before bettering it with an impressive 8.12 in round 2. This was just 0.02 short of the British Athletics standard for next month’s European Indoor Championships in Poland and moves the City of Lisburn AC athlete to 15th on the UK all-time lists.

Commonwealth 200m Bronze medallist Leon Reid (James Hillier) made a welcome return to competition and was also 0.02 shy of a European Indoor standard when finishing 3rd in the 60m behind two of England’s fastest sprinters, Andrew Robertson and Harry Aikines-Ayreetey. Leon’s time of 6.76 was 0.04 outside his NI indoor record and both he and Dean Adams, who has the standard from 2020, will be looking to improve their seasons best in Dublin next weekend at the AAI Elite Micro Meeting.

In the elite endurance meeting in Manchester, Katie Kirk (Mark Kirk) and Ciara Mageean (Steve Vernon) finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the 800m with 2:04.09 and 2:04.40. Ciara already has the European Indoor standards for 800m, 1500m and 3000m and Katie will be looking to beat 2:03.85 at the weekend to be in contention for a place in the Irish team going to Torun next month.

Also this weekend NI U20 400m record holder Davicia Patterson (Eric Floreal) set a new PB in the indoor 200m with 24.38 in Fayetteville, Arkansas while competing for Texas.
