NI & Ulster Athletes Excel at European Cross Country Championships

Northern Ireland and Ulster athletes proved their mettle on Sunday 11th December with athletes brining home 8 medals in total at the European Cross Country Championships in Turin, Italy.
Mid Ulster AC had plenty to celebrate, with club athletes Nick Griggs and Grace Carson bringing home medals for their respective countries. Nick, representing Ireland, had an extremely close and agonising finish for the Silver Medal in the Men’s U20 event, attributing to the Irish Team U20 Men claiming the Silver medal, which included Finn Valley AC’s Sean McGinley, finishing in 12th place and CNDR Track Club’s Callum Morgan, finishing in 18th place.
Next to take a medal, was Grace Carson, in her debut for GB & NI, where she came 5th overall, contributing to the GB&NI team taking home the Gold team medal.
Next for Team Ireland, was the Senior Women, which included Finn Valley AC’s Eilish Flanagan & Roisin Flanagan and Letterkenny AC’s Ann Maire McGlynn. The Women’s team took home the Bronze Medal, with Eilish and Roisin leading the team home, in 11th & 12th places respectively and Ann Marie finishing in 31st place.
In the U20 Women’s event, East Down AC’s Anna Gardiner finished in 59th place, while North Belfast Harrier’s Róise Roberts who finished in 66th place, both contributing to a overall 8th place for the Irish team.
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches, on a record medal haul for both the GB&NI and Irish teams.
