NI AND ULSTER TEAM FOR ANGLO-CELTIC 100K HOME INTERNATIONAL

For the first time in many years a Northern Ireland & Ulster team will take part in the Anglo-Celtic 100K Home international on Sunday 24th March 2019 in Perth, Scotland.

A seven-strong team of men and women has been named to take on England, Scotland and Wales on a looped course in North Inch Park on the banks of the River Tay, Perth.

The team includes brother and sister, Tim Brownlie (Willowfield Harriers) and Susan McCartney (BARF) from Belfast. Tim ran a personal best for 100K of 7 hours 47 minutes 56 seconds this summer winning the 100K at Energia24 in Victoria Park; and Susan ran 8:35:36 in Crawley in April.

The men’s team is completed by Bangor’s Mark Walker (MCI) who took the bronze medal at the National 24-Hour Championships in Belfast in the summer running a PB of 140.7 miles; and Donaghadee’s Sean Nickell who won the 53 miles Loop the Lough in June.

The women’s team is completed by Irish 24-hr international and current National 24-Hr Champion Louise Smart (Co Antrim Harriers) from Newtownabbey, Bangor’s Fiona Prue (Ward Park Runners), twice a winner of the Energia24 12-hour race; and Carrick’s Gillian Connolly (Seapark AC) a past winner of the Tralee 100K in 9:29:55.

Team manager Ed Smith says: “I’m delighted that, after a long absence, Northern Ireland & Ulster will be once more be represented at the annual Anglo-Celtic 100K Plate. Ultra-running has been growing quickly here in recent years and this is a great opportunity for some of our best long distance running talent to test themselves at an international  competition against the best of the home countries.”
