NI Athletes Performed Well at the Virgin Money London Marathon

Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya) broke the course record with the second fastest ever time at Sunday’s Virgin Money London Marathon in a time of 2hrs 2 mins 37 secs to gain his 4th Victory.

Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew became the second person to go under 2 hrs 3 mins when he took silver in 2:02:55. National teammate Mole Wasihun finished 3rd in a time of 02:03:16.

The Women's race was won by Kenya's Brigid Kosgei in 2:18:20 with Vivian Cheruiyot (Kenya) in 2nd place in a time of 02:20:14 and Ethiopia’s Roza Dereje came 3rd in 02:20:51.

The good weather conditions in London facilitated fast times for the runners from Northern Ireland, with Aaron Woodman (Willowfield Harriers) crossing the line in 31st place overall in a time of 2:25:56. He was followed by Gary Slevin (Foyle Valley AC) in a time of 2:28:17, Lawrence O'Hara (North Belfast Harriers) finishing in 2:31:20, Adrian Bell (Willowfield Harriers) in 2:36:04, Adrian Scullion (Knockmany Running Club) in 2:36:12, James Budde (North Down AC) in a time of 2:38:23, Gordon Graham (East Down AC) in 2:38:56, Craig Simpson (Foyle Valley) in 2:39:05, Brian McElvanna (Armagh AC) in a time of 2:39:27, David Hamilton (St Peters AC) in 2:39:42, Brian Taggart (Sperrin Harriers) in 2:42:39 and Dennis Scott (North Down AC) in a time of 2:44:13.

Ward Park Runners' Emma Davis ran 2:53:49, leading the Northern Ireland ladies across the line while Ireland's Sarah Lavery finished in 03:01:25, with Fiona McQuillan (North Down AC) recorded a time of 3:02:40. They were followed by Helen McCready (Rosses AC) in a time of 03:05:03, Tara Malone (1Zero1 Athletes) in 03:06:35, Gillian McCrory (St Peters AC) in 03:13:11, Lisa Corry (Saintfield Striders) in 3:17:25, Catherine Cauley (Scrabo Striders) in a time of 3:18:23, Amanda Perry (Ballydrain Harriers) in 03:18:51, Lisa Coyle (1Zero1 Athletes) in 03:20:57, Patricia Blair (Larne AC) in a time of 3:22:25 and Amy Bulman (Willowfield Harriers) in a time of 3:22:41.
