NI and Ulster Championship Events for 2019

The Athletics NI Cross Country and Road Running Committee are delighted to announce this year’s NI & Ulster Championships events.

This year’s NI & Ulster 5k Championship will be the Deep RiverRock Queen’s 5k Race Around The River on Wednesday 3rd April 2019. The event is hosted by Queen’s Athletics Club and this will be the second consecutive year it has held the Championship status. Find out more about the event here.

North Down AC’s Bangor 10k has retained the NI & Ulster 10k Championship status from last year. The previous event attracted close to 1,000 competitors. The event will be held on Saturday 28th September 2019. You can find out more about the event here.

The 2019 Road Relay Championships will be again hosted by Orangegrove AC at Victoria Park, Belfast.  It is the 9th year of this event & last year there was a record 900 athletes from Primary school through to Masters Athletes. The date of the 2019 Road Relay Championships is Saturday 5th October. Event details are available here.

The Half Marathon Championships have been awarded to the long established Waterside Half Marathon organised by Derry & Strabane District Council and City of Derry Spartans AC. The date is Sunday 1st September 2019 with around 2000 athletes expected to participate. Find out more about the event here.

For the first year the committee elected the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon to receive the NI & Ulster Marathon Championship. The event celebrates its 38th year on 5th May 2019, making history by moving to a Sunday for the first time ever and starting at the iconic Stormont Estate.  Marathon participants can expect a brand new flatter faster route encompassing the entire city: North, East, South and West.  Marathon entries are already at a record high with 6,000 expected to take part this year, including athletes from the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Netherlands and more. Find out more details here.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the race organisers on their continued successful organisations of these events.
