Northern Irish Athletes Set for European Indoor Championships

The European Athletics Indoor Championships take place in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, from March 6th to 9th, 2025. Among Team Ireland’s strong contingent, four Northern Irish athletes – Kate O’Connor, Rachel McCann, James Gormley, and Conor Kelly – are set to compete on the European stage.
Kate O’Connor
- Event: Pentathlon
- Club: Dundalk St Gerards AC
- Coach: Michael O’Connor
Kate O’Connor will take on the demanding pentathlon, an event covering five disciplines. She has been in excellent form, having broken the Irish indoor Pentathlon record last month in Tallinn.

O’Connor will be looking to build on her strong performances and challenge the best in Europe.
Rachel McCann
- Event: Women’s 400m, Women’s 4x400m Relay, Mixed 4x400m Relay
- Club: North Down AC
- Coach: Ian Neely
Rachel McCann has been selected for both the individual 400m and the relay squads. This marks her senior international debut, and she will be looking to make an impact in both disciplines.

James Gormley
- Event: 3000m
- Club: Carmen Runners AC
- Coach: Ben Thomas
James Gormley is making his senior Irish debut in the 3000m and will be looking to make an impact on the European stage.

Conor Kelly

Conor Kelly, who recently set a new U20 national record in the 400m, joins Rachel McCann in the mixed relay team.
