Officials Kurtis Scott and John Glover Honoured at Recent Awards Ceremonies

Athletics NI are delighted to congratulate two of our extremely hard working officials, Kurtis Scott and John Glover, on their recent awards.

Kurtis Scott was presented with the ‘Young Technical Official of The Year’ award at the Sport NI Sport Maker 2018 Awards Ceremony. Kurtis was presented with his award on Monday 11th February 2019 at the Awards Ceremony in Titanic Belfast.

Kurtis gives a huge amount of his time, supporting both local and national meetings, as a very enthusiastic and hardworking field official and is among the top qualified officials in Northern Ireland.

After 50+ years participating and helping in athletics, John Glover was presented with the Older Volunteer of the Year award on behalf of Belfast City Council. Unable to attend the awards ceremony due to illness the award was presented to him at the IAAF International Cross Country by Athletics NI’s Director of Business & Operations Kerry Woods.

John is an invaluable member of the athletics community who enjoys running, cycling and hammer throwing but can be found in a variety of roles across the sport, including announcer, course measurer, competition organiser, starter and coach.

Lord Mayor, Councillor Hargey said at the awards evening: “People are one of Belfast’s most important resources and that applies whether they are economically active or not. Many community groups could not exist and make the differences they do without the constant support of volunteers like yourselves.”

Athletics NI would like to echo the Mayor’s comments in relation to the sport of athletics. Without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, officials, coaches, parents etc the sport would not be as successful as it is and we would like to thank all who give up their time for athletics.
