Para Success at 2025 Manchester International

The Northern Ireland Para team had a great day at the new format Manchester International on 30 August with several athletes showing good form leading into the final seven months of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games para qualification window.

T12 100m and Long Jump athlete Freddie Wallace (City of Lisburn / Michelle Rea) had an electric first ever race running with a guide runner when he ran a wind aided 12.18 seconds in the 100m which is over half a second faster than he has ever run before. Thanks to world renowned Para coach Joe McDonnell, first year U17 athlete Freddie had the opportunity to run with experienced Welsh international guide runner Makoye Kampengele and will have gained a huge amount from his 6th placed finish in this senior international. 2012 Paralympic finalist Sally Brown (Joe McDonnell) ran her fastest 100m for 13 years when running a wind aided 13.42 (2.5) for 5th place in the women’s ambulant race. Sally’s best legal time in 2025 of 13.81 puts the T47 athlete in a strong position of making the Games in Glasgow next year. 2022 Commonwealth Games T38 100m competitor Eve Walsh Dann (North Down AC / Roger Sexton & Lyn Fisher) was busy on the day finishing 6th in the ambulant Long Jump in difficult breezy conditions and Eve also recorded her fastest 100m for three years when running 14.48 (2.5) to finish 8th in the Women’s ambulant race.
