Para Success in London

Athletics NI’s Para athletes saw great success in London this weekend.

Jayne Bleakley (nee Ritchie) finished 2nd in the British Championships, and 13th overall in a fantastic new PB time of 2:10:23 in the Women’s Wheelchair (T53/T54) Marathon on Saturday.

Jayne recorded a Flying 400 time of 1:15 finishing 16th overall.

In the Mini Marathon, youth athletes, Archie Cunningham and Finn McIlroy both took part in their first ever wheelchair road races. Archie took part in the U14 category finishing 3rd in a time of 11:03. Finn competed in the Under 18 category finishing 4th in a time of 11:23, making his wheelchair racing debut after mere months of training in a racing wheelchair.

Para Development Lead, Heather Ardis, stated “I am very pleased with this weekend’s performances from all of the athletes. It is great to see Finn and Archie competing in their first road races and we hope to see them out on the track this summer. This is  Jayne’s 3rd marathon and a great new PB, proving all her months of hard work have paid off”.
