11 September 2018
Athletics Northern Ireland Event Group Development sessions for Endurance Athletes are scheduled to take place every Thursday evening beginning on 20th September and concluding on Thursday 20th December at Mary Peters Track from 6.00pm-8.15pm
These sessions aim to develop skill and physical preparedness specific to improving athletes in endurance events. The sessions to be led by Allister Woods will begin at 6pm with a dynamic warm up and running drills.
There will then be a 1 hour window were athletes can complete their main session with their club coach or remain with Allister for an extended running drills session (including hurdle walkovers, acceleration and wicket runs.) At 7.30pm athletes having completed their main running session will be invited to the Les Jones Room for a 45 minute strength and conditioning session including:
- Foundational strength exercises with kettlebells
- Trunk strengthening
- Glute, Hamstring & Calf Conditioning
- Intrinsic Foot Strengthening to Prevent Injuries
The content delivered will closely mirror term 1 activities at Athletics NI Youth Academy sessions.
Capacity is limited to 16 athletes (aged 14+) and athletes may sign up here
Coaches are welcome to attend alongside their athletes so that they can continue to reinforce key principles of physical preparation for endurance with these and other athletes throughout the year.
