Nick Griggs in action in Cork

There were many significant performances from our local athletes over the holiday period.

In Cork on the 9th of July there were pb’s for Rachel McCann (North Down) in the 200m with 24.11, Callum Morgan (CNDR) in the 3000m with 7.56.62 and Lughaidh Mallon (UCD) in the mile. Lughaidh’s 3.56.09 clocking makes him the 16th NI athlete to go sub-4. Nick Griggs (CNDR) continued his impressive comeback from illness finishing 5th in the 3000m in 7.40.38. Andrew Thompson running the 800m ran well in his first major track meet finishing 7th in 1.47.08.

The Morton Games were held a couple of days later in Dublin on the 11th of July. Nick Griggs (CNDR) produced a stunning performance in the men’s mile breaking the NI senior record and the Irish U23 record clocking 3.52.42 to finish 4th. This time was also under the consideration standard for next year’s Commonwealth Games.

Lucy Foster (Willowfield) was an impressive winner of the women’s junior mile in 4.49.80 which was a pb for her. In the U20 men’s mile Finn Diver (Beechmount) was second in a pb of 4.17.76.
