Roys Sub 23 Wind-assisted Performance in Texas Highlights Early Season

Over the past two weekends there have been several excellent performances home and away for NI athletes.
Following on from breaking Amy Foster’s long standing 200m record in the 200m City of Lisburn AC Athlete Lauren Roy went even faster at the end of April clocking an astonishing wind assisted 200m performance of 22.85 (3.7) to win the race in Stephenville Texas before clocking another strong 100m time of 11.56 (0.2) the following day.
In Italy at the Multistars Combined Events World Tour, Commonwealth Heptathlete Anna McCauley built on her early season form to finish 10th and score close to her best with 5487 points including a PB in the Javelin of 36.01m.
Academy Heptathlete Ashleigh McCardle (Lifford Strabane) scored a PB of 4721 in the U20 Somerset Combined Event Championships to finish 5th, her performances included an impressive PB in the Javelin of 40.43m.
Over the bank holiday weekend there were two impressive performances at the British University Championships with City of Lisburn and Loughborough University athlete Jenna Breen taking a dramatic equal Silver Medal in the women’s 400m with a personal best of 54.89. Clubmate age group F12 athlete Freddie Wallace competed in the Para Long Jump setting a new PB of 5.45m into a headwind of -0.9.
At the Dublin Graded meeting Ben Sykes (Orangegrove AC) was part of the Irish U20 4x100m Relay team that set a qualifying mark for the European U20 Championships with 40.88 before he went on to run very close to his PB in the 100m with 10.68 (2.0). Joshua Awujoola (Fast Twitch AC) won his heat of the 100m in an impressive 10.66 slightly over the legal wind limit with 2.4.
