Scullion Qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Yesterday, Clonliffe Harriers’ Stephen Scullion qualified for this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo by finishing 5th in the Houston Marathon, in a new personal best time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 52 seconds.

Scullion’s time is 22 seconds slower than the Olympic qualifying time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 30 seconds, however his 5th place finish at a Gold Label event is enough to gain him selection for Tokyo under the new IAAF rules.

Scullion will now join Northern Ireland’s Paul Pollock and Ciara Mageean who have both already qualified. Paul qualified with his stunning time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 17 seconds at the Valencia Marathon, while Ciara qualified with her 10th place in the World 1,500m final.
