Secondary Teachers Professional Development Day

On Friday 27th March 2020 Athletics NI will deliver our annual Secondary Teachers continuous professional development day at Ulster University, Jordanstown.

The previous three years have seen these development days at full capacity with 40+ teachers attending from across Northern Ireland and the Athletics NI Development Team, led by Laura Kerr and Tom Reynolds, look forward to rolling out this year’s workshop.

This year the team will deliver a sample PE lesson for athletics including running, jumping and throwing activities as well as offering electives for teachers who wish to develop their skills in specific jumping or throwing events.

Athlete Development Lead Tom Reynolds said, “The Ulster Schools Athletics Championships remains the largest Track and Field competition in Northern Ireland and we recognise the tremendous contribution Physical Education teachers across the country make to developing our sport. We have been delighted to work with so many Secondary teachers during the past 3 years of running this development day.”

“Once more this year’s development day aims to ensure that teachers go away with sample athletics lesson plans for PE as well as specialist knowledge and skills in some of the more technical events. At Athletics NI we believe that providing a quality first experience is essential for retention and progression of young people in sport.”

Teachers are invited to sign up free of charge on the link below.

Certificates of attendance and take-home resources will be provided on the day. Spaces are limited to 40 with the schedule running from 10 am-3.30pm.
