Twenty-Four Medal Haul for NI Athletes at Irish Juvenile Championships

Our NI juvenile athletes brought back an impressive haul of twenty-four medals from the Irish Juvenile Championships which were held in Tullamore over the weekend.
One of our youngest competitors Lucas Janosik (City of Derry Spartans) had an impressive win in the boys U13 600m breaking the championship record with a time of 1.32.46. There was also an impressive win for Nathan Coyle (Enniskillen Runners) in the U17 boys 800m in 2.01.68. Alex Downey (Lagan Valley) had a great performance winning the U18 boys 3000m with a margin of almost eight seconds in 8.58.70. It was a similar story for Dromore AC’s Emma Stewart who took the girls U18 3000m title with a time of 9.53.72 six seconds ahead of second place. Ethan Carr (Ballymena and Antrim AC) continued his breakthrough season with a comfortable win in the boys U17 400m, his winning time of 49.14 was the fastest time of the day. In the sprint Hurdles Cameron McCracken (North Down AC) won the U19 boys 110m hurdles with a time of 14.70.
There were silver medals on the track for Cara Casey (Foyle Valley) in the U19 girls 800m with 2.15.82, Harry McVeigh (Newcastle AC) in the U14 boys 800m in a pb of 2.09.82 and Naomi McClelland (Ballymena and Antrim AC) in the U15 girls 800m.Bronze medals went to Madison Welby (City of Lisburn AC) in the U17 girls 800m, Grace Evans (Mid Ulster AC) U18 girls 800m, Tomas Montgomery (North Down AC)in the U18 boys 400m, Luke Callaghan (Orangegrove) in the U18 boys 100m and Kayla Russell (Lifford Strabane AC) in the Girls U18 100m hurdles.
In the field events Dominik Lipowski (North Down AC) had an excellent win in the U17 boy’s discus, throwing 42.50m to finish over five metres ahead of his nearest rival. Millie Sandie (Lifford Strabane AC) took the silver medal in the shot with a putt of 11.62m, Millie’s teammate Cabrini Pyne also got silver in the U17 girls shot with 11.62m. Emma Reid (North Down AC) was the silver medallist in the girls U17 discus with a throw of 35.83m. There were bronze medals for Melissa Ward (Lifford Strabane AC) in the U16 girls hammer and teammate Cole Spencer in the U18 boy’s discus.
In the jumps Sophie Acheson (Ballymena and Antrim AC) finished second in the U14m girls long jump with a leap of 4.96m, her teammate Oliver Prince was also second in the U16 boys triple jump with 12.37m. Heidi Knox (City of Lisburn AC) jumped 1.45m in the U19 girls High jump to secure the bronze medal. North Down AC’s Jago Campbell also won bronze in the U15 boys high jump with a jump of 1.61m.
