U18s Shine in Franconville

Some of Northern Ireland and Ulster’s upcoming athletics stars competed at the Franconville U18 Meet over the weekend, with some excellent performances from the Athletics Ireland team.

European U20 gold medallist, Nick Griggs (Mid Ulster AC/ Coach: Barrie Holmes) continued his form, running the 3000m in a very controlled race right from the gun, finishing 1st in an Irish Youth Record time of 8:07.46.

Lifford Strabane AC’s multi NI & Ulster Champion, Adrienne Gallen finished 3rd in the Women’s Hammer competition with a throw of 57.63m.

Loughview AC’s Rebecca Rossiter ran a solid race in the Women’s 1500m, finishing in 4th place in a time of 4:35.52.

Lucy McGlynn (Tir Chonaill AC) ran in the Women’s 100m Hurdles event, finishing in 6th place in her final in a time of 14.36 (w/s 3.2), while Cranford AC’s Oisin Kelly finished the Men’s 800m in a time of 1:56.98 to take 6th place.

Congratulations to all athletes and coaches who took part in the Franconville U18 Meet this weekend, which provided great opportunity for the athletes to compete in international competition.
