23 September 2026

Road racing delivered another busy weekend of competition, with athletes from across Northern Ireland and beyond producing a number of impressive performances. From the streets of Belfast to the Griffith Avenue Mile in Dublin, there were wins, PBs and national titles to celebrate, with several familiar names continuing their strong form on the road.
Close to seven thousand runners took to the streets around Belfast City Centre on Sunday for the Belfast City Half Marathon. The result was almost identical to the recent Waterside Half Marathon which once again saw a Letterkenny one-two with Stephen McAuley winning in 65.18, and teammate Danny Mooney second in 68.30. The podium was completed by Patrick McColl (Roadrunners AC) who finished third in 69.06.
In the women’s race once again the winner of the Waterside Half Marathon also triumphed in Belfast. Judith Storm (City of Derry Spartans) took advantage of the favourable conditions to win by over three minutes in a PB of 74.14. Dearbhla Cox (Annadale Striders) was second in 77.35 and Maire Ferguson (Willowfield Harriers) just behind in third with 77.46.
In Dublin, at the Griffith Avenue Mile which also incorporated the Irish Road Mile Championships, Patrick Sheridan (Newcastle & District AC) won his first National title in the men’s race with a time of 4.07. Cassie Curran (North Belfast Harriers) was the winner of the Juvenile girls race in a time of 5.19.
