Two more NI Indoor records were broken in Boston over the weekend.

Lughaidh Mallon (UCD) ran 3.56.36 in the men’s mile, shaving four hundredths off of the previous record held by his training partner Nick Griggs (CNDR AC). There were also PB’s for Frank Buchanan (St. Michaels AC) with 4.02.98 and Finn Diver (Beechmount AC) with 4.08.52.

Nick had the consolation of breaking the NI 5000m indoor record by finishing fourth in 13.19.90, which is also an Irish U23 indoor record. James Gormley (Carmen Runners AC) and Callum Morgan (CNDR AC) were also under the existing record, running 13.26.24 and 13.31.47, respectively.

James’ time was under the Commonwealth Games consideration standard of 13.30.00, making him the fifth NI athlete to achieve this.

In Glasgow, at the EAP International Indoor meeting, there were podium finishes for Niamh Carr and Zoe Toland (CNDR AC) in the women’s mile. Niamh was second, with a PB of 4.40.81 and Zoe third, in 4.41.81, which was also a PB. In the women’s 400m, Rachel McCann (North Down AC) was third in race one in 53.25, which placed her seventh overall.

Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn AC) scored in impressive 4333 PB in the Pentathlon at the Tallinn World Combined Events Tour Silver meeting, adding 83 points to her previous best from two weeks ago. She finished 6th in the competition, won the High Jump event and jumped over 6m for the first time in the Long Jump. Her individual performances were as follows: 60m Hurdles: 8.62; High Jump: 1.78, Shot Put: 11.45, Long Jump: 6.08 and 800m: 2:15.18.
