WEEKEND ROUND UP 10th to 12th APRIL

In Dublin on Sunday, Emily Haggard Kearney (North Belfast Harriers) continued her impressive run of form with a victory in the AAI National 10K Road Race, clocking 33:25 to take the title. It was a strong showing all around, with Hannah Gilliland (Annadale Striders) also delivering an excellent performance to secure second place in 35:19 and join Emily on the podium.

Across the Atlantic in the United States, Anna Gardiner (East Down AC) and Cara Laverty (Finn Valley AC) made great starts to their outdoor season, both claiming victories for Providence College at the Friar Invitational Meet. Gardiner produced a standout performance in the women’s 5000m, winning in a massive PB of 15:51.78, while Laverty impressed in the women’s mile, taking the title in 4:44.79, just shy of her PB.

The third day of the AAI National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Abbottstown saw the final indoor meeting of the season and there was plenty of medals won by our local athletes across a number of events.

Cara Casey (Foyle Valley AC) continued her outstanding indoor season in style, claiming victory in the U19 girls’ 1500m with a PB of 4:36.56. Jude Glover (Lagan Valley AC) also struck gold, producing a PB clearance of 1.83m to win the boys’ U17 high jump. There was further success in the field for Lifford and Strabane AC, who enjoyed an excellent afternoon with five medals. Joseph Ike secured silver in the U17 boys’ shot with a throw of 13.09m before returning to add another silver in the triple jump (12.64m). Ryan Boyle also impressed with a PB of 10.93m to take silver in the triple jump, while Spencer Cole claimed bronze in the U18 boys’ shot (14.64m) and Cabrini Pyne added another bronze in the U17 girls’ shot (11.30m).
