WEEKEND ROUND UP 1ST NOVEMBER 2025

There was plenty of cross-country action over the weekend both at home and abroad.

Over in the US the colleges held their conference championships and in the Big East Championships which were held in New Hampshire Anna Gardiner (East Down) had a great run to finish sixth, her Providence team-mate Cara Laverty (Finn Valley) was fourteenth. Mattew Neill running for Syracuse in the Big Twelve championships held in Kansa ran very strongly finishing 17th.

Roisin and Eilish Flanagan (Finn Valley) opened their Cross-country season in Boulder Colorado with Eilish finishing third in the women’s race and Roisin fifth.

Closer to home, on Saturday, one of Northern Irelands oldest cross-country fixtures, the McConnell Shield was held in Ballyclare. The women’s title was won by Tara McDonagh (North Down) from Jennifer Martin (Trafelta) and Joanne Mills third. North Belfast Harriers won the team race.

The men’s race was won Fionntan Campbell (CNDR) from Daniel Dines (North Down) with Conal McCambridge (NBH) third. Annadale Striders won the team race.

In Sans Sebastian in the World Athletics cross-country tour silver meeting Candour teammates Nick Griggs and Callum Morgan competed very well in a high-class international field. Nick finished fifth and Callum tenth.
