This weekend saw the last track and field meeting of the summer season with the NI and Ulster Combined Events Championships being held at the Mary Peters Track over the weekend. Over sixty competitors braved the wet conditions, covering all age groups from U13’s to masters.
The U15 girls proved to be the most competitive category with seventeen athletes battling for places on the podium. In the end it was Newport Harrier’s Sophie Piddington who took the win with 2747 points from Millie Sandy (Lifford and Strabane) and Sophie Wylie (Lagan Valley). The NI and Ulster title went to Millie as Sophie is from Wales. The U13 girls also produced a very competitive competition with only twenty-eight points separating the top three. In the end Deava Diver (Milford AC) hung on for the win with 2148 points from Ceola McGlincheg (Finn Valley AC) 2132 points and Sarah Jackson (Beechmount Harriers) 2120 points.

Hannah Irwin (Cambridge and Coleridge) had a very impressive win in the Mid Chesire 5k which was held on Friday night. She ran 15.13 which equals the NI record set by North Belfast’s Emily Haggard Kearney in the same event last year. Emily also featured on the podium finishing third in 15.51.
