WEEKEND ROUND UP 3rd - 6th April

Morgan Narrowly Misses NI Record in Lille as Ulster Athletes Shine Across Europe and Home Events

Callum Morgan produced another outstanding performance on the track in Lille on Saturday night, clocking 28:16 for 10K to finish just eight seconds outside his own NI record.

The mark came only three months after Morgan set a new NI best of 28:08 in Valencia in January, underlining the superb form he has carried into the 2026 season.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland athletes enjoyed success on the international stage at the European Masters Championships in Torun, Poland.

Conor Curran of North Belfast Harriers claimed the silver medal in the M50 1500m, adding another major championship medal to his collection. There was further success through Jaqueline McMonagle, who helped the Irish women’s F55 team secure double gold. McMonagle played a key role as Ireland won both the 5km road race team title and the 8km cross country team title.

Closer to home, there was a strong turnout at the Whitehead 5 Mile.

Danny Bradley of Orangegrove AC took victory in the men’s race, while Jennifer Nandi of Herne Hill Harriers was first woman across the line.

The Beragh 5 Mile and 5K also produced impressive performances.

Michael Melarkey of City of Derry Spartans won the 5 Mile race, with Alex Murphy of DSDAC taking the women’s title. In the 5K race, James Conway of Omagh Harriers claimed victory, while Annaleigh McKenna of Keep Er Lit was the first female finisher.

The performances capped another memorable weekend for Northern Ireland athletics, with athletes delivering success on the international stage and across local roads alike.
