Weekend Preview 2019 NI & Ulster Intermediate & Masters XC Championships

The Barnett’s Demesne Trail & Jumps Park will host this weekend’s NI & Ulster Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships on Saturday 26th January 2019.

Athletes from across the Province will go head-to-head as they battle it for both individual and team honours, in what should be an exciting day of cross country action, with brand new trophies available for the Master’s Men and Women and the Intermediate Women, as well as the War Memorial Trophy for the Intermediate Men’s event.

The day will begin with the Intermediate Women’s 4k race at 1pm. Inishowen AC’s Sarah Kelly; Lagan Valley AC’s Rebecca Wallace and Willowfield Harriers’ Hannah Gilliland will all be competing, fresh from their Celtic and Home Countries Silver medal as part of the NI & Ulster Women’s U20 team at the IAAF Northern Ireland International Cross Country on Saturday 19th January 2019.

The next race on the timetable will be the Master’s Men’s 8k event at 1.30pm. Mark McKinstry (North Belfast Harriers) will be hoping to follow on from his impressive performance at last weekend’s International Cross Country, when he was the first NI & Ulster athlete across the finish line in 13th place.

Next up to the starting line for a 4k event will be the Master’s Women and Vet Men O65+ at 2.10pm. There will be an interesting competition in the Women’s team event, with City of Derry Spartans AC, City of Lisburn AC, Dromore AC, Lagan Valley AC, Newcastle Ac, North Belfast Harriers, North Down AC and Willowfield Harriers all having strong contingents.

Then it will be the turn of the Intermediate Men running 8k at 2.40pm with Commonwealth Games Steeplechaser Adam Kirk-Smith (Derry Track Club) following on from last week’s 19th place in the IAAF International Cross Country.

Car parking will be available at various locations close to the course at Shaw’s Bridge, House of Sport, the Dub Lane car park, Upper Malone Playing Fields and the Mary Peter’s Track.
