Weekend Preview NI & Ulster U14-U17 Age Group Championships

Youth athletes will take to the stage on Saturday 15th June 2019 at the NI & Ulster U14-U17 Age Group Championships at the Mary Peters Track. With just over 480 athletes taking part across 100 events.

Among those striving for the Podium places, will be a number of the 2018 NI & Ulster Age Groups Champions.

Annalee AC’s Niamh McCorry, who last year secured a total of 3 gold medals, will be competing in the U17 Girls 100m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles and the High Jump. Another triple threat, Lifford Strabane AC’s Adrienne Gallen will once again be reaching for gold in the U16 Girls Hammer, Shot and Discus.

Previous double gold medal winners, Ross Stevenson (Ballymena & Antrim AC) will feature in the U16 Boys 200m and the 100m; Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) in the U16 Girls 200m and the 100m; Rory Carson (Orangegrove AC) in the U17 Boys 200m and Katie Monteith (City of Lisburn AC) in the U17 Girls 200m and 100m.

Upcoming stars Dylan McBride (Willowfield Harriers); Cara Laverty (City of Derry Spartans); Finn O’Neill (City of Derry Spartans); Victoria Lightbody (City of Lisburn AC); Finlay Stewart (City of Derry Spartans); Beth Hammond (North Down AC); Molly Coffey-O’Connor (Clones AC); Sean McGinley (Olympian Youth & AC); Sorcha Mullan (Omagh Harriers); Niamh Fenlon (North Down AC); Ellie McCurdy (Lifford Strabane AC); Joseph Haynes (Armagh AC) and Molly Curran (Carmen AC) will also be in the mix for medals on what should be an exciting day of competition.

Dylan McBride (Willowfield Harriers) will be competing in the U17 Boys 800m, while Cara Laverty (City of Derry Spartans) will be in the U17 Girls 800m. Multi-Eventer Finn O’Neill (City of Derry Spartans) will feature in the U15 Boys 250m Hurdles, the 800m and the High Jump.

City of Lisburn AC’s Victoria Lightbody will race in the U16 Girls 800m, in a field of 16 athletes, while her club mate, Finlay Stewart will compete in the U16 Boys 250m Hurdles, Long Jump and the Shot. North Down AC pair, Beth Hammond will be competing in the U15 Girls Hammer and Shot, while Niamh Fenlon will be in the U15 Girls 80m Hurdles, 250m Hurdles and Long Jump.

The U15 Girls Discus will have Molly Coffey-O’Connor (Clones AC), while Olympian Youth & AC’s Sean McGinley will take part in the U16 Boys 3000m. Sorcha Mullan (Omagh Harriers) will be in the U17 Girls 3000m with Ellie McCurdy (Lifford Strabane AC) competing in the U15 Girls Javelin.

Armagh AC’s Joseph Haynes is set to take part in the U17 Boys 2000m Steeplechase, and Carmen AC’s Molly Curran will compete in the U17 Girls 100m Hurdles, the High Jump and the Shot.

With an abundance of athletic talent set to attend on Saturday, it should make for an exciting day of competition.

Refreshments will be available in the carpark and there will be a Sports Massage available from 1pm -5pm in the Les Jones Room of the Athletics House for athletes, accompanied by an adult.
