Weekend Round Up 25th - 27th September

A busy weekend of road racing saw athletes from across Northern Ireland line up on the national and international stage, with almost 1,600 runners taking part in Saturday’s Seaton Classic 10K in Bangor, which incorporated the NI 10K Road Championships, before attention turned to Cardiff for Sunday’s Home Nations 5K Road Championships.

On Saturday Close to sixteen hundred runners took the streets around Bangor for the second running of the Seaton classic 10k which also incorporated the NI 10k road championships.

Breezy conditions led to a tactical men’s race with Andrew Milligan (North Belfast) making his move late on in the race to take the win in 31.08 from Letterkenny’s Danny Mooney who has now won individual NI and Ulster Championship medals over 5k, 10k, and half marathon all within the past five weeks. Michael Fox (Letterkenny AC) finished third. Danny had the consolation of leading his Letterkenny team to another victory in the team race. North Down finished second with North Belfast Harriers third.

In the women’s race Dearbhla Cox (Annadale Striders) continued her run of good form with a comfortable win by over a minute from her teammate Harriet Buswell with Rachel Gibson (North Down) close behind to take third place. Dearbhla ran 36.55 to lead her Annadale team to another victory in the team race, North Down finished second and Victoria Park and Connswater third.

On Sunday in Cardiff at the Home Nations 5k road championships the NI and Ulster men’s team finished a credible 4th overall with Conall McClean (CNDR) first man home in twelfth place. In the women’s race Emily Haggard Kearney (North Belfast) was the first of our women across the line finishing in thirteenth place.
