Honore Hoedt Leads Successful Endurance Coach Network
13 October 2017
The latest Athletics NI Endurance Coaches Network (ECN) took place at Crowne Plaza, Shawsbridge on Friday 6th October with 40 of Northern Ireland’s leading endurance coaches attending.
The ECN brings the coaching community together to gain and share knowledge and more importantly to network with each other. The network formed part of Athletics NI’s Annual Coaching Conference engaging 140 coaches across the weekend of Friday 6th and Saturday 7th October.
Athletics NI were delighted to welcome Dutchman Honoré Hoedt as guest speaker at this year’s Endurance Coaches Network.
Having coached athletes to five Olympic Games, Honoré is one of Europe’s leading authorities on middle distance running and gave an honest reflection on his own coaching philosophy, and journey, as well as, discussing talent identification and development for middle distance athletes.
Coach Development Lead Laura Kerr said “Honore’s discussion of talent development was both engaging and challenging.
“He described finding the balance between aerobic and anaerobic work, and recognising the differing responses of fast and slow twitch athletes to different training stimulus.
Adding: “As we progress our own talent identification and multi event approach here in Northern Ireland, it was very interesting to understand the approach taken by Honore in his regional development programme in the Netherlands.
“The Endurance Coaches Network serves as an excellent opportunity for local coaches to come together and immerse themselves in current best practice”.
Speaking after the event, Athletics NI’s Running Participation Officer Alistair Woods said: “For anyone interested in attending future network events please keep an eye out on our social media channels and the dedicated Conference/Seminar section on our website.”
