18 May 2017

Athletics NI have been invited to send a Track & Field team to the Manchester International on Wednesday 16th August. The NI & Ulster team will compete against England, Scotland, Wales, British U20 team, British League team and Combined Forces.

Event winners at the Senior Championships on 10th June may gain automatic selection provided they reach the qualifying standard by the time of the selection meeting on 24th July.

Tom Reynolds, Athlete Development Lead said, “This is a key competition that sits on our Performance Pathway to provide athletes with an opportunity to prepare for future international competition.  We will aim to send a strong team of experienced athletes along with those that show potential to compete at the highest level in the near future. This will also provide an opportunity for Gold Coast hopefuls to compete against potential Commonwealth rivals from the other home countries”

Jackie Newton, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development said, “Part of our strategy is to progress more of our athletes towards higher levels and inspire those that will follow in their footsteps. We see this as an excellent opportunity to enhance this process and look forward to seeing the athletes competing, at the trials, for the honour of representing NI & Ulster.”
