Mandatory Training Module (Safeguarding and First Aid)
As of 1st April 2023, ALL Coaches who wish to renew their license must complete the online UKA Mandatory Training module via the Athletics Hub.
Please see guidance from UKA as to which module you should complete:
Once you have logged on to Athletics Hub you can find the module by completing the following steps:
- Select "Qualifications and CPD"
- In the box where it says "Search our courses" - Select Mandatory Training and Updates
- ALL Level 1 Coaches (LIRF & Coaching Assistant) should complete the Tier 1 module
- ALL Level 2 Coaches (CIRF and Athletics Coach and above) should complete the Tier 2 module
- Once you have selected and purchased the correct module, it can be located in the "MyLearning" section under "Online Courses"
Please note, This is included as part of the course cost for both LiRF & Coaching Assistant (Tier 1) and CiRF & Athletics Coach (Tier 2) and will be automatically available within the "MyLearning" section of Athletics Hub upon registering for the course.
Safeguarding module for Officials
Welfare & Safeguarding Session for Clubs

This 1 hour session will give club committees, Welfare Officers and coaches the opportunity to increase their awareness and understanding of current policies & procedures in relation to Safeguarding as well as how to report a concern. Additionally, the session will focus on practical tips to embedding a safer culture within your club before an opportunity to ask any questions in relation to welfare & safeguarding.
Designated Safeguarding Officer Training

Athletics NI, in conjunction with Sport NI, regularly holds Designated Safeguarding Officer Workshops to support the Welfare Officers to increase their role specific knowledge on what the Safeguarding Officer role is, how to embed Safeguarding within your club and how to deal with concerns.
The Safeguarding Children and Young People workshop is 3 hours in duration.
The online workshop incorporates a pre-learning element that is mandatory for participants to undertake in advance of the actual workshop.
It comprises of a 30 minute video which forms the basis on the workshop and therefore must be observed in advance. Participants are also encouraged to review the workshop resource and some supporting material in advance also.
Tutors will test individuals understanding of the pre-learning element in the actual workshop.
Post registration, Athletics NI will share participant registration details with Sport NI who will subsequently release the pre learning content.
The online workshop, will be approximately 2.5 hours in duration and all elements must be completed in order to receive certification.
This workshop is recommended for all Welfare Officers and prior completion of the Safeguarding Children & Young People Workshop is a workshop pre-requisite.
In order to attend the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) Training, you are required to have an in date/completed UKA Tier 2 Mandatory Training module or a Sport NI Safeguarding Certificate.
