Guide Running Workshop

Are you interested in Guide Running?

The Guide Running Workshop will give you the theoretical knowledge behind Guide Running and also the opportunity to practice Guide Running with other Leaders/Coaches and the opportunity to guide athletes who are Blind/Partially sighted.

Course Prerequisites: All guide runners are qualified to guide after:

  • Attending a Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop.
  • Have completed an Enhanced Access NI application through the Athletics NI portal.

Course Content:

  • Introduction to Guide Running
  • Visual Impairment
  • Classification and Rules
  • Terminology

How do I access this workshop?

Go Run NI host several Guide Running workshops with Tony Barclay MBE throughout the year.

This is a practical workshop designed for anyone interested in learning how to guide visually impaired runners.

Sight Loss Awareness & Guide Running (Online)

The Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running online workshop enables leaders, coaches and volunteers to attract and support more visually impaired (VI) people to Athletics and running.

The online course includes information on:

  • Types of visual impairment and common eye conditions
  • Appropriate behaviour and terminology
  • Making sessions VI friendly
  • Guide running top tips and safety
  • Guide running practical sessions
  • Further support and resources 

This online module can be accessed on Athletics Hub - There are currently no courses scheduled but please check in the 'Qualifications & CPD' section on your Athletics Hub profile for when the course will be added again.
