Race Walking Officials Courses

The Race Walking qualifications are available for anyone aged 16 or over who is interested in learning more about race walking events.

Track & Field Officials Pathway

Level 1 Race Walking Judge 

Available for anyone 16 years or older who is interested in officiating at race walking events. The course will last around 3 hours and will cover the following topics:

• Understand the difference between walking and running
• Know the rules of race walking
• Know what the judges’ paddles mean
• Begin to gain confidence in picking out infringements
• Understand the procedures for issuing cautions and red cards and recording these
• Understand the purpose and importance of the posting board and when/how the chief judge will disqualify a competitor
• Understand what makes a good Race Walking Judge

Next Steps

• Gain a minimum of four competition experiences
• Ensure you have uploaded your licence photo to the myAthletics portal (head shot on a white background). We are currently experiencing technical difficulties resulting in <https://myathletics.englandathletics.org/portal/Members/Login> being down. Our IT team is currently working on identifying the cause of the issue.
• Complete an Access NI check
• Complete the self-taught Safeguarding module
• Complete the self-taught Health and Safety module module (FREE).
• Complete the Level 1 application form and send to officials@athleticsni.org
